This photo is of Roy Case with his deer
kill of December 6th, 1930 in
Vilas County. This photo depicts the
first bow-killed deer in the State of Wisconsin as a sport. Roy coined the
phrase “bowhunter.”
Thanks to his efforts, along with others, a
separate bowhunting
season was established in 1934 and
Wisconsin became the first
state in the country to hold an
archery-only deer hunt.
Separate bow and gun deer hunting licenses
began in 1965.
